Importance of Summer Reading
The statewide Rhode Island Summer Reading Program is supported by the RI Office of Library and Information Services with funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Pawtucket Red Sox, Citizens Bank and Pepsi. Local support includes RI Children's and Young Adult Librarians. Special thanks to the Friends of the Jamestown Library.
The Jamestown Philomenian Library is excited to be partnering with the Jamestown Schools this year in order to increase the scope and significance of the Summer Reading Program.
Research has shown that children who read six or more books during the summer maintain or improve their reading skills, while children who do not lose ground by September.

After learning about the history and science of henna, participants will get to experience this art form first-hand, drawing out their own patterns and having henna applied by professional henna artist Heather Caunt-Nulton of Henna by Heather.
